2N84 Work Party #1

Date: June 25

Attendees: Sarah, Rick, LoopChoke, StockRocks, Melissa, Rick, blkTJ, Tori, Nailer341, cjDirtBiker, 6Spyder, JeepGal, Dukes69, Kaffa, Nagal, Kirk, Rubiconn, Christina, Laura, Katherine

Hours: 236

We had an exceptional turnout for our first workday in the forest - with a strong team of 20! Everyone spent at least 8-9 hours on the trail that day, plus travel time for a total of 236 hours.

We met at the Fawnskin fire station at 9AM and headed to the trail. After our brief introductory meeting lead by Jason, we broke into three teams to survey and get to know the trail. For most, it was the first visit.

Brush was cleared from A and B, and quite heavily on C. We covered illegal tracks going up the hill on A-B with leaves and logs. We cleaned and rerouted necessary culverts, removed trash, and Jason informed some campers that fires were not allowed where they were set up on 2N84C.

It was an unseasonably chilly couple of nights but I guess that’s what makes it fun. Sunday morning we ran Holcomb Creek. When we returned to camp that afternoon, we were shockingly greeted by fire trucks on the trail. Supposedly, in the same area where the campers were parked the day before, about 3/4 acre burned. At the time of this post, the forest service did not know the cause of the fire.

Overall it was a great weekend and we were able to substantially improve to the trail. Prior to our adoption of this trail, we had never been in the area. 2N84 is a beautiful trail! It’s not rated at this time, but a high-clearance 4WD vehicle is required although the trail is mostly a dirt road. If you haven’t ran it, we invite you to check it out!

Great job setting up the site, Sarah!
The MyjeepRocks.com trail crew clean up is fantastic! I am glad to be a part of it.
It is great fun with a purpose. Clean up and maintain our trail, and squeeze in a bit of wheeling. What more could you ask for?
